Christ Cafe 2008!

Do youngsters realize their inherent need to know that they are loved passionately by a living God? Do they appreciate their true worth and grasp the fullness of life to which Christ invites them? Do they consider Christ to be a person who they can identify with? All these thoughts led Jesus Youth, Delhi to prayerfully plan out a forum where youngsters could encounter the love of Christ in a meaningful and authentic manner.

Thus originated the idea of a place where a youngster feels accepted and loved by Jesus and begins to form a relationship with Him. A place where youngsters realize that Christ is as relevant today as He was over 2000 years ago. A place where perhaps, Jesus would have gone with his cherished friends to share a meal. A place where these friends could openly talk about their fears and dreams. A place similar to the cafés today’s youngster hangs out at!

And so the name – Christ Café – where the profound and everlasting truth recorded in Isaiah 43:1(b) rings out with joyful clarity– “ I have called you by your name. You are mine.”

Christ Café was held from 24th -28th October 2008 on the beautiful campus of the prestigious Jesus and Mary College in Chankyapuri, New Delhi. The main resource persons were Mr. Antony, Mrs. Rina Antony, Mr. Tomas Michael and Mr. Jose Kurien.

The participants reveled in the experience of the everlasting and personal love of Father God. They came to know the supreme love that Jesus proved through His passion, death and resurrection. At the confessional they met a Father who waits with deep longing for His child. In the Holy Eucharist they met the Lover of their soul who brought healing and restoration to their mind, body and soul. The culmination was a visual treat with the Archbishop of Delhi, Most Reverend Vincent M Concessao, celebrating the Holy Eucharist along with 12 priests. At the end of the Mass the priests laid their hands on the participants who received the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Pages could be written to share how beautiful these days were for the participants and the organizers. The experience would be best summed up in the words of the lovely song –

‘God’s love is so wonderful…..
So high you can’t get over it,
So deep you can’t get under it,
So wide you can’t get around it
O wonderful love
